 What is CBD/Cannabidiol?

CBD/Cannabidiol is one of over 100 compounds found in cannabis that belong to a class of molecules called cannabinoids. Of these cannabinoid compounds, CBD is usually present in the highest concentration (along with THC) are therefore the most recognized and studied.  Unlike THC, CBD does not cause a high. While many people enjoy the marijuana high, health professionals prefer treatments with minimal side effects. CBD does not produce that "high" effect.  One of the most interesting effects of CBD is its ability to interact with other cannabinoids in cannabis, such as THC and CBN, and terpenes. CBD hemp oil is extracted from the cannabis varieties that are naturally abundant in CBD, and low in THC.

What is hemp?

Hemp is not marijuana. Marijuana is not hemp. They each have their own separate uses and benefits. There are different varieties of the cannabis plant and Hemp refers to the non-intoxicating varieties of the Cannabis plant. Both hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, but are genetically distinct and are further distinguished by use, chemical makeup, and cultivation methods. CBD is derived from Hemp that contains only trace amounts of THC (Less than 0.3%). Hemp is grown from specific cannabis varieties that naturally possess higher levels of CBD. These hemp plants produce hemp oil that is naturally rich in cannabidiol. Because organic hemp oil is extracted from high-CBD, low-THC cannabis, it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects the way THC does, will not get you high. Hemp has been known for its industrial and environmental uses and benefits throughout history. Hemp can be used for paper, fuel, oils, medicine, clothing, housing, plastic, rope, and even food. In fact, many of these uses of hemp have been practiced throughout our history for over thousands of years.

Will CBD Hemp Oil cause a failed drug screening?

The CBD Shop cannot guarantee that THC will be absent in a drug test.

Different drug tests screen for different drugs, and they vary depending on the concerns of those administering them. Drug screens often test for more than just marijuana. They may also check for opioids, alcohol, cocaine, barbiturates, methamphetamine, and more. Most workplace drug screens designed to detect marijuana use look specifically for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound most people think of when they think of marijuana, and its main metabolite, 11-nor-delta9-caboxy-THC (THC-COOH). Hemp can legally contain up to 0.3% THC, which is considered "trace amounts", but depending on the type of drug screening test used and whether or not they are testing for CBD, there is a possibility you could show positive after consuming CBD Hemp Oil.

Anyone who is concerned about having a positive drug test should avoid consuming CBD oils. If you’re in the United States Military, a first responder, a competitive athlete, or employed by a company that’s subject to strict drug testing, we recommend that you not ingest CBD oil before talking with your healthcare, employer, or drug screening company.
